We provide woven geotextile in civil engineering for a wide range of design functions:

Separation

  • Maintain soil integrity and prevent soils from mixing and interfering with another.
  • Increase load capacity and stability of a structure.
  • Significantly reduce maintenance.

See separation products

Filtration

  • Retain soil, sand or silt subject to hydrodynamic forces without interfering with water flow.
  • Effectively prevent hydraulic pressure.

See filtration products

Reinforcement

  • Safeguard structural stability through load distribution.
  • Improve mechanical performance in soil masses and prevent movement and deformation.

Case study: reduced CO2 emissions at the Ostend airport

Terralys LF57/57 was installed over 160.000m² of runway at Ostend airport. The woven geotextile was selected over the conventional method of applying 10cm of gravel to strengthen the asphalt structure. We analyzed the reduction in carbon impact on multiple levels:

  • Product: geotextile compared to gravel
  • Raw material: polypropylene (PP) compared to polyester (PET granulate)
  • Geotextile type: woven compared to non-woven

The results of our findings include significant reductions in:

  • CO2 emissions
  • Transport
  • Use of natural resources & materials

How to reduce 252 tons of CO2 on a single jobsite ?

593 trucks of gravel = 3 trucks of geotextiles

Our calculations predict an extended life span of the runway, thanks to the superior durability and resistance to degradation of the Terralys product.

Geosynthetics in civil engineering: fundamental to sustainable development

Engineers today face the challenge of designing infrastructure solutions while conserving resources and energy. Geosynthetics deliver the design and construction technology needed in infrastructure development to:

  • Reduce carbon footprint
  • Minimize the use of natural resources
  • Increase road quality & longevity

Beaulieu Technical Textiles is a active member of several associations. Through our membership, we support and promote the appropriate use of geosynthetic technology for sustainable development.
